JSON-LD Structured Data: Describe What the Page Actually Is — Type by Type
JSON-LD is a JSON script that describes a page's entities to search engines and AI systems using Schema.org vocabulary. It should be valid JSON, use a type that matches the visible page content, and never describe entities that are not actually on the page.

Structured data is how you tell a machine, in a structured way, what a page is about — an organization, an article, a product, a FAQ. JSON-LD is the format search engines recommend because it lives in a script tag and does not interfere with markup.
Pick the type that matches the page
- Organization — brand entity, on the homepage and footer.
- WebSite — site and its search action.
- WebPage or Article / BlogPosting — content pages.
- BreadcrumbList — navigation context.
- FAQPage — only when the page genuinely has a FAQ section.
- SoftwareApplication — for a product page.
Only describe what is visible
Never add schema for entities a human cannot see on the page. Misleading or invisible schema can trigger manual actions. The structured data is a machine-readable copy of visible content, not a way to inject meaning the page does not have.
Validate before publishing
Validate every block for valid JSON, correct Schema.org types, and required properties. Invalid JSON breaks the whole block; a missing required property reduces the chance of rich results.
Frequently asked questions
Does adding schema guarantee rich results?
No. Schema makes a page eligible for rich results; whether they appear is decided by the search engine based on quality and content match.
Can I have multiple JSON-LD blocks on one page?
Yes. A page can have several blocks — for example Organization, WebPage, and BreadcrumbList together — as long as each is valid and matches visible content.
